MAS X MENOSThis is one of the bigger grocery store chains in all Costa Rica owned and operated by Walmart. Yes, the same store you love to hate in the states. Mas x Menos sells a lot of groceries like meat, chicken, veggies, fresh fruit, etc. A basic pharmacy can be found here but prescriptions cannot be filled in the store, a liquor section, souvenirs and a little of everything. They also have a private parking lot with a security guard. Mas x Menos is located in the center of Jaco across from Farmacia Jaco. MAXI BODEGAThis is another Walmart owned store. Maxi Bodega is located in the seccond entry to Jaco (Por la Costanera). This store is the biggest one in all Jaco area. The prices are equal too or a little less the Mas x Menos. More selection and better product some times. It has a big parking lot. The good thing about Maxi Bodega is that it is located outside of Jaco Center. Less traffic, a big route, and more space. It's like a super store in Costa Rica with more selection and goods then you can be found in any other store in the Jaco area. MEGA SUPERThis particular grocery store is owned and operated by diferent owner I think. Mega Super is the third or fourth biggest grocery store chain in Costa Rica. This grocery store is a little cheaper then Mas x Menos and Maxi Bodega and they have local products and familiarity. They have a little bit of everything. The store is located in a good place inside in a little plaza, next to KFC and in front of the hotel Tangeri. SUPER LAS CHANCLETASLas chancletas is located in the north area of Jaco at the junction of the first road leading into Jaco and the main road running through it. This particular grocery store is very basic. They have just the things you need to keep you. They have stuff like water, milk, juice, bread etc. They are one of the many small convenience stores around town. The prices are the goverment regulated so there is little fluctuation from the big stores. SUPER JACO 2000This grocery store is located along the Costanera well outside Jaco center. They have lots of local produce and also every morning they have fresh bread. The people are very nice friendly. Their prices are the same or less then the other stores.Give them a try if you want help support the smaller merchants and the poorer people this way FARMERS MARKETJust about every Friday, down near the municipality, vendors set up an open air market. Fresh fruits and vegetables along with great deals on poultry, cheeses, etc. What a great way to meet llocals and give back to the community. Not to mention getting some good deals on local produce.
